Victories need to be shown. While it is all while and good to tell your subordinates that the war on earth was an all out victory for Homeworld several years ago, that doesn't really paint a convincing picture in the minds of gems who haven't even looked at the planet with their own eyes. Words need to be reinforced with images, to ensure that what had happened will not be forgotten. That insubordination has a price, and that the great and lustrous Diamonds's wrath is always upon those who even think about the idea. What better way to make all of this clear than by ensuring that even the most dull-witted ruby can understand this message: You furnish an art gallery that has been dedicated solely to making sure that it almost literately screams Homeworld's triumph from the entrance to the last corner of the building. While the activity of making and appreciating art in any serious manner was normally only reserved for a select number of gems who had the privilege to enjoy such things, this special 'Commemorative Exhibition' was an exception. What was the point of a purely propaganda-orientated gallery if only the most loyal aristocratic gems could enjoy it? Of course proper protocol needed to be upheld, so if a Sapphire wanted to inspect a piece, you better made sure that there were no Amethyst standing in her way. Still, in theory this was supposed to be an exhibition that was open to every gem who was at least given some time off to celebrate and remember Homeworld's victory. Most of the pieces were what one would expect because of this. Large statues of warrior-type gems who played important roles during battles, murals picturing the splendrous of the Diamonds (always a classic), and other art pieces that showed of the battles and victories of Homeworld forces. As expected there wasn't any piece that even betrayed the slightest hint of struggle or hardship during the war that didn't pictured Homeworld in a gracious light. Every single art piece had been selected to fit in perfectly with the message that Homeworld utterly destroyed the rebellious forces all those years ago, and that they were also in their right to have done it the way they did. A clear message of the power of the Diamonds, and an even clearer message that such things will be dealt with the same way in the future.
Well, that was at least what Tobernite thought about this whole exhibition now that she was standing inside of it.
Well, that was at least what Tobernite thought about this whole exhibition now that she was standing inside of it.
She had her slanted eyes fixed upon a statue that was dedicated to some Quartz Soldier who single-handedly took out a whole platoon of rebel forces, whose gems were laying at her feet as she looked out in the distance after her victory. The furnisher of the gallery was clever enough to place the statue's eyes fixed upon a distant mural that pictured Pink Diamond, which gave another layer to the text on the statue "She proudly served her Diamond". As Tobernite took her eyes of the statue, she glanced around the floor of the gallery at the other gems who were present at the time. No other Tobernites could accompany her today so she was feeling a bit lonely, which was rare for her. While on mission either on Homeworld or away she was more than not alone, or at least not in a place to speak freely. That didn't bothered her. But now that she was allowed to spend a part of her day doing anything other than her assigned purpose, she was really in the mood to speak with other gems. These moments were rare for her and she didn't wanted to waste her day looking at art alone. While, looking at art alone while there were numerous other gems looking at art...alone.
At these moments she wished that she had a pearl.
